When should I begin taking my child to the dentist?

Pediatric dentists recommend 6 months after the first tooth comes in and no later than your child's first birthday. Visiting the dentist can be stressful for kids, so choose your dentist carefully and talk to your child about what to expect. Also, to help your child become comfortable with the surroundings, taking a field trip to the dentist's office once or twice before the first exam might be helpful.
